Overview

LAMP stands for Lontra Account Management Process and is the process we have used to maximize and multiply the results we get when managing our Amazon accounts. If you haven’t read it yet, you can check out What is LAMP

TLDR: We manage our accounts by breaking things down into either Planning, Implementing, or Reviewing Performance. We manage each department in the same way, and make sure that the team sees how their actions impact the whole organization.

In this post we are going to get into the nitty gritty of how to implement LAMP, instead of just being all theory and no practice. In the article below, we’ve got a simple to follow template, as well as step by step instructions for you, so you can get the same metrics we use.

While these metrics can be found using software, including Lontra Analytics, it’s important to note you can get them yourself for free! Further to that point, it’s important to note that if you know how to give solid directions, you can actually take all of this time intensive work off of your plate, by asking a virtual assistant to do it for you!

The outcome from this article is that you should have an easy to understand score (metric) for each of your departments.

90% of the time, this activity takes 30 minutes or less, and the majority of our time is spent troubleshooting the issues that this process brings to the surface.

Introduction

The LAMP Scoreboard is a unique tool that seamlessly integrates with our process of making plans, implementing them, and reviewing them on a monthly or even weekly basis. The purpose of this tool is to identify the best score for each department, which include promoting products, optimizing SKUs, managing inventory, and managing the account.

Promote Products goes beyond just PPC campaigns and encompasses all aspects of promoting a product on Amazon. The typical score for this department is either ACOS or TACOS, but it could also be based on organic sales percentage or another metric.

Optimize SKUs focuses on more than just conversion rates. It also involves analyzing the competition’s offerings, improving the cost of goods sold, optimizing packaging, and finding better pricing strategies. The typical score for this department is the average unit session percentage.

Manage Inventory is all about staying in stock and managing relationships with suppliers, 3PLs, and finance teams to ensure timely orders. The typical score for this department is having all products in stock.

Manage Account oversees all aspects of customer service and is often the first to notice any performance issues or unresolved customer inquiries. The typical score for this department is responding to all comments within 24 hours.

In conclusion, the LAMP Scoreboard simplifies reporting and saves time by providing a comprehensive tool for tracking and reporting performance across multiple departments. By identifying the best score for each department, Amazon sellers can make data-driven decisions to optimize their strategy and increase efficiency.

Establishing a baseline

If you’re ready to get started with the LAMP Scoreboard, the first step is to establish a baseline for your Amazon account. This will give you a clear understanding of your current performance across all departments, so you can set goals and track progress over time.

To establish this baseline, you’ll need to download reports from Amazon that contain data on your sales, promotions, SKUs, inventory, and customer service metrics. It’s important to ensure that all of these reports cover the same time period, with the exception of the FBA inventory report, which is a snapshot of your current inventory.

Once you know which reports to download, you might want to consider offloading this task to a virtual assistant or using automated tools to save time and streamline the process. With your reports in hand, you’ll be ready to start using the LAMP Scoreboard to track your performance and identify areas for improvement.

Paste and Next steps!

Once you have downloaded the reports, paste them into the appropriate sheets.  It’s important to check that the columns match and that all formulas are working. If a cell is blank, it may indicate an issue with the formula. Once you have confirmed the data is accurate, you can paste it into the appropriate tab of your LAMP Scoreboard.

To keep your Scoreboard organized, make sure to hide all the columns that say “paste” once you have pasted the data. This will make it easier to read and analyze the information in the Scoreboard.

By following these simple steps, you can save time and simplify your reporting process, allowing you to focus on making informed business decisions to improve your Amazon sales performance.

Implement LAMP Scoreboard Activities

To get started, go to the “SOP Steps” tab in the LAMP Scoreboard.

Write down who is responsible for each role:

  • Who does planning? Write down the planning score. Typically, this is profit, but it can be any other relevant metric.
  • Who does promotions? Write down the promotion score. This is usually ACOS or TACOS, but it can be any other relevant metric.
  • Who does SKU optimization? Write down the SKU optimization score. Typically, this is the average unit session percentage.
  • Who does inventory management? Write down the inventory management score. Usually, this is all products in stock, but it can be any other relevant metric.
  • Who gathers the data for performance review?

By identifying who is responsible for each role and what their corresponding score is, you can have a clear idea of how each department is performing. This will make it easier for you to track progress and identify areas that need improvement.

Action Steps:

To effectively implement the LAMP Scoreboard activities, follow these action steps:

Promote Products:

  • Open the Promote Products tab in the spreadsheet
  • Evaluate each product’s results
  • Look at leading metrics for that score (e.g., if TACOS is high, check if ad spend is high, or if there were a low amount of organic sales)
  • Make notes about in the SOP steps tab either writing “on track” or write in your next step.

Optimize SKUs:
  • Open the Optimize SKUs tab in the spreadsheet
  • Evaluate each product’s results
  • Look at leading metrics for that score (e.g., if we have a low Unit Session Percentage, check if we have been spending less money on ads, check if there is a low advertising conversion rate, or if any changes have been made to the product, such as changing its price)
  • Make notes about in the SOP steps tab either writing “on track” or write in your next step.

Manage Inventory:
  • Open the Manage Inventory tab in the spreadsheet
  • Evaluate each product’s results
  • Look at leading metrics for that score (e.g., if our days of stock are low, look into why – did we sell more than we expected to? Was a shipment delayed?)
  • Make notes about in the SOP steps tab either writing “on track” or write in your next step.

Manage Account:
  • Open the Account Health section on Amazon
  • Check if there are any issues, make note of them, and try to find the root cause (e.g., did we ship too many FBM orders late? Did a customer complain about our products?)
  • Move on to the Performance Notifications section, and check if there are any notifications. If yes, try to find out why they occurred (e.g., did a customer complain about our products?)
  • Go to our messages on Amazon, and check if there are any messages that were not replied to within 24 hours. Look into why that happened
  • Make notes about in the SOP steps tab either writing “on track” or write in your next step.

By following these action steps, we can successfully implement the LAMP Scoreboard activities and continuously improve our performance on Amazon.

Who/What/Where/When/Why

To effectively tackle the issues identified in the previous steps, the team should follow an action plan with clear roles and responsibilities. Here are the key components of the action plan:

Who/What/Where/When/Why?

For each issue, the team should provide their points of view and recommendations. Then, the decision-maker should decide:

  • Who will take the next step
  • What will be done
  • Where it will be done
  • When it will be done
  • Why it will be done

The decision-maker is responsible for making the final decision in case there is a dispute between the other team members.

This step is crucial to ensure that each issue is addressed efficiently and effectively. By following the steps in the LAMP process, your team can prioritize and resolve the most pressing issues and ultimately improve the overall performance of the Amazon account.
